Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Sunday said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) always stood against dictators and rendered numerous sacrifices for democracy and rights of the people.
He was addressing a public gathering at Kasur after inaugurating various development projects for public welfare. The Prime Minister said that the PPP government strengthened Parliament‚ Election Commission‚ Judiciary and media.
He said that the people of Pakistan are the real power of the PPP which always thwarted the conspiracies against it. He said we do politics for the sake of people and for reconciliation and love.
The PPP led government improved the economy considerably and now Pakistan is able to export wheat and earn lucrative foreign exchange by dint of prudent economic policies of the governments, he said.
The PM said that PPP-led government executed a unique project Benazir Income Support Programme for providing financial assistance to the poor segments of the society and million of families are taking benefit of it.
The Prime Minister said that Kasur is the land of Sufis and intellectuals and the people of the city always mustered their supporty for the PPP. He announced to set up an international Bhullay Shah university in Kasur.
The Prime Minister said solid efforts would be made to open Gunda Singh Wala border with India and the issue would be included in the agenda of next talks with India.
PPP Central Punjab President Mian Manzoor Wattoo said that the PPP leadership has offered many sacrifices for the prosperity and welfare of the people.
He said that it is only Democratic Party in which a common worker can also reach up to the office of prime minister.
He alleged that the PML (N) rigged the by-elections and said that the PPP would achieve an overwhelming majority in the next general elections.
Referring to the policies of the PPP government for food security in the country‚ he said that the government has given best price of one thousand two hundred rupees per forty kilogram to the wheat growers to upgrade their standard of living.
Senior PPP Punjab leaders Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad said that the PPP led government has always formulated its policies to ensure the welfare of the masses. He said that if the PPP is elected in the next general elections‚ it would continue its people's friendly policies.
Earlier‚ the Prime Minister inaugurated a sui-gas project to six villages costing four hundred and three million rupees in Kasur.
He also inaugurated 132-KV grid station‚ a regional passport office as well as Sui Northern Gas Company Limited regional office.
Among others‚ Punjab Governor‚ Sardar Latif Khan Khosa‚ Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira‚ Minister of State for information Syed Sumsam Ali Bukhari‚ Minister for Religious Affairs‚ Syed Khurshid Shah‚ PPP Central Punjab President‚ Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo‚ and Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz Ahmad were also present on the occasion.
