Eight murder convicts sent to gallows in Punjab


Eight murder convicts were executed in different prisons of Punjab including Bahawalpur, Multan, Attock and DG Khan others on Tuesday.
The execution of four other convicts were postponed following agreement between the parties or courts stay orders
In Multan, two death convicts were hanged while another was brought back from gallows here in Central Jail Multan on Tuesday morning.
Jail sources confirmed that the condemned prisoners - Tahir and Manzoor were executed while the hanging of Abdul Waheed alias Toti was postponed.
The death convict Tahir had shot dead one Khurram, nephew of JI leader Liaqat Baloch, in 2003. He was sentenced to death by a court. Similarly, Manzoor chopped off the heads and limbs of his wife and father-in-law following a dispute in 2003. He was also sentenced to death.
They were hanged in presence of jail authorities, doctor and a magistrate.
The bodies of the hanged criminals were handed over to their families.
Meanwhile, the wife, daughters and sons of death convict Abdul Waheed alias Toti gathered outside the shop of brother of the man, who had been murdered by Toti. The family of the deceased agreed to forgive Toti on which he was brought back from gallows just before his hanging.
Strict security arrangements were made outside Central Jail Multan on this occasion.
Two murder convicts were also hanged in new Central Jail Bahawalpur. Death row convict Aziz-ur-Rehman had killed three people over a petty issue in 2002 while, Akhtar Ali had murdered a woman over resistance during a robbery bid.
Similarly, two convicts were also executed in district jail Gujrat. Death row prisoners - Azam and Iftikhar were sent to the gallows for murdering a man in 2004.
In Attock, murder convict Zahid was executed in the District Jail. Zahid had killed a man during a robbery attempt in 2005. In Dera Ghazi Khan, a murderer named Muhammad Iqbal was sent to the gallows in the Central Jail. Iqbal had killed a man named Manzoor Hussain in 2001.
On the other hand, hanging of death row convict Abdul Waheed was postponed after the two parties reached an agreement.
Execution of Saeed Ahmed was halted in Dera Ghazi Khan Central Jail after agreement between two parties while, after stay orders from the court, hanging of Gul Jahan and Qaisar Abbas was halted in Mianwali and Gujranwala Central Jails respectively.
