Snipers being deployed at police pickets

LAHORE – A high-level police team has begun investigations into Monday’s pre-dawn gun attack at Babu Sabu Interchange police picket, which left two policemen dead and injured two others.
Police sources revealed that several suspects have been detained during search operations launched in different parts of the City late on Monday night. However, the police authorities did not confirm any important arrest or breakthrough. Four gunmen attacked the Babu Sabu Interchange police picket, shot dead two policemen and injured as many during the brazen assault and fled away on their car on Monday. In the aftermath of the attack, the cops have been directed to remain on their toes in order to thwart any further untoward happening.
According to sources, the police are implementing a new strategy for the cops’ deployment at police pickets all over the City.
As per the new plan, only young and energetic policemen would be deployed at the police pickets while snipers and special shooters would also be deployed at the pickets in important and sensitive areas.
A police source revealed that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab has forwarded a report to the Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif with regard to the gun attack.
The IGP has requested the CM to ensure provision of maximum bullet-proof jackets for the cops. The cops equipped with latest weapons with bullet-proof jackets would be deployed at the important pickets especially at the entry and exit points.
Meanwhile, the police are on high-alert across the Punjab province following the security agencies warned the government that the terrorists were planning to launch terror strikes by targeting key government installations, political and religious leaders and security forces.
The police have also been directed to implement a complete ban on display of all type weapons including licensee weapons and take action against the violators.
