ISLAMABAD - Tehreek Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYR) Wednesday approached the Islamabad High Court seeking its directions for the government to publicise the report of committee headed by Senator Raja Zafarul Haq.
The TLYR moved the court through Muhammad Jawad, Member of its Markazi Majlis-e-Shura and cited federal government through Prime Minister, Secretary Law and Justice, Speaker National Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League through its president as respondents.
The petitioner through his counsel Pir Fida Hussain Hashmi Advocate stated that the National Assembly passed an amendment into the Election Act 2017 and the said amendment presumptuously aimed at changing the eligibility criteria of a political party head but the public posturing about the contents of the amendments were used to veil and carry out a nefarious design of changing the basic religious safeguards provided in the constitution.
He added that the amendment after being assented and passed raised hue and cry from the opposition benches as contextually it aimed at hurting and changing the basic strata of religious safeguards in the constitution.
The petitioner informed the court that feeling the heat of the public resentment, PML-N president constituted an inquiry committee under the head of Senator Raja Zafarul Haq. “The committee after going through its mandated assignment has completed its inquiry and has presented the report to the respondents,” he maintained. He continued that the inquiry report though finalised, has not been publicised till date albeit repeated demands, successive appeals, political agitation and sit-ins. He added that the inquiry report is still hidden and the culprits are in this way being given a protection from the arms of law and public’s conscience. Therefore, he prayed to the court to direct the federal government to publish and publicise the inquiry report submitted by Raja Zafr ul Haq and the culprits so determined therein may be proceeded against under the relevant laws.
