The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in Karachi and several districts of Sindh from Sunday evening or night.

The port city experienced hot and humid conditions on Saturday, with the “feels-like” temperature recorded one to two degrees higher than the actual due to high humidity, despite the return of sea breeze. Light rainfall or drizzling is expected in parts of Karachi from tonight, with the spell likely to persist until August 22.

According to the PMD, scattered heavy to very heavy falls are expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Jacobabad and other districts during August 17–22.

Strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are penetrating the country, while a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is moving westward, intensifying the activity. A westerly wave is also present, further strengthening the conditions.

Meanwhile, several districts of Balochistan including Zhob, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, Gwadar, Panjgur, and Musakhel are also expected to receive rainfall with isolated heavy falls from August 17 to 21.

The Met Office has warned of possible urban flooding in major cities as widespread torrential rains are expected across the country.
