Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has expressed sorrow over the devastation caused by recent floods in northern Pakistan, which have killed hundreds and left thousands displaced.

“My heart breaks for every community affected by the devastating floods in Pakistan, from Gilgit-Baltistan to Azad Jammu and Kashmir and especially Buner, Swat, Bajaur and Shangla in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” Malala wrote in a message on X, offering “deepest condolences to everyone who has lost loved ones, homes and livelihoods.”

According to the KP Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), 344 people have died nationwide over the past 48 hours, including 324 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Dozens of homes and schools have also been damaged in Swat, Shangla, and other districts.

Malala, who hails from Shangla, recently visited her home village Barkana in March 2025 for the first time in 13 years since surviving a militant attack in Swat.
