LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif during a meeting through video link, on Monday, reviewed various proposals for saving crops and property from devastation caused by floodwater nullahs including Aik, Palkhu, Dek, Bhaid, Busantar and others.

He also gave approval to a phased programme for improvement of nullahs of Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Kamoke.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister directed concerned authorities to immediately start work on a short-term plan for the improvement of floodwater nullahs in Gujranwala division before the monsoon season so that losses could be controlled.

He said that preventive measures should be adopted for saving the life and property of the people of the concerned districts from floodwater so that damage due to floods during monsoon season could be minimised. He said that the short-term plan approved for the improvement of nullahs of Gujranwala division should be completed at any cost.

“Speedy efforts will have to be made for the execution of the short-term project. Concerned departments should work efficiently for the implementation of the project of controlling losses caused by floodwater and the work should be completed on emergent basis,” the CM held.

The chief minister said that all protective measures should be finalised before the coming monsoon season.

The secretary irrigation gave a briefing on improvement of floodwater and minimising the losses. Provincial Irrigation Minister Yawar Zaman, Member Provincial Assembly Waheed Gull, Senior Member Board of Revenue, concerned secretaries, commissioner Indus Water and concerned senior officers were present at the meeting at Civil Secretariat whereas MNAs, MPAs, Commissioner Gujranwala, DCOs of Gujranwala, Sialkot and Narowal districts attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, a delegation of a Chinese company in energy sector met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, on Monday. Matters regarding energy projects and investment opportunities in energy sector in Punjab were discussed in the meeting.
