KARACHI - In order to bring transparency in the tendering process, KMC will sign a MoU with the Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SPPRA) so that KMC officers could perform their functions completely in accordance to the relevant rules and regulations and development works could be done in an effective manner.
These views were expressed by Mayor Wasim Akhtar while speaking as chief guest in the inaugural ceremony of the 2-day capacity building on SPPRA rules training workshop held for KMC officers in the City Institute of Image Management (CIIM), KMC on Tuesday.
SPPRA Managing Director Khalid Chachar, Director Capacity Building Javed Sibghat Mehar, Deputy Director Ayub Ali Qaimkhani, Imam Ali Qadri, Imran Razzak besides KMC Works Committee Chairman Hassan Naqvi, Senior Director Municipal Services Nauman Arshad, Director Technical SM Shakaib, Director CIIM Mohammad Shahid and other officers were also present on this occasion.
The mayor urged the participants to avail this opportunity to enhance their capabilities and complete these modules in such a way that could help them perform their tendering works in an excellent way and this could prove to be beneficial for the department and KMC.
He said this is first time in the history of KMC that such training has been arranged to help the KMC officers to understand the technicalities of the tendering process and to bring transparency in the execution of development and other works.
SPPRA Managing Director Khalid Chachar thanked the mayor for arranging this workshop for KMC officers and assured all possible support so KMC officers could carry out their functions in a good manner. He said SPPRA will soon sign a MoU with KMC to arrange for SPPRA Certified Training facility in CIIM not only for KMC officials but for other organizations also. He said this training being provided in accordance with the SPPRA Act 2009 and Rules 2010 and comprised of latest training modules.
Director Technical to Mayor Karachi SM Shakaib said this training which was being held on the directive of the Mayor Karachi is attended by the 35 officers from 10 departments of KMC who have been assigned the duty in the tendering process.
Later, Managing Director of SPPRA Khalid Chachar met with the mayor in his office and discussed with him the training process of KMC officers.
Meanwhile, following the directives of Mayor the Metropolitan Commissioner of KMC contacted to the DIG South Police for retrieval of KMC vehicles and lodging of FIR against the officers who are no more concerned with the KMC services and still not returned the official vehicles despite of reminded repeatedly.
These officers include former secretary local government Baqa-ullah Unnar (Toyota Corolla GS-7042), Deputy Commissioner West Ganhwar Leghari (Toyota Corolla GS-5558), Assistant Commissioner Arshad Warsi (Suzuki Margala GS-0891),
Retired Director Aftab Wasim (Toyota Corolla GS-9359 and Suzuki Cultus GL-5467), former Senior Director Transport Mohammad Ather (Toyota Corolla GS-6742), former Edo Education Sajan Mallah.
(Toyota Corolla GS-5115), former Consultant KMTC Ghulam Rasool (Toyota Hi Ace GL-7481), former Consultant T&C KDA Sattar Javed (Suzuki Mehran GL-4312) who did not return back the official vehicle allotted to them during KMC service and are still not ready to comply.
