SC seeks reply from Malik Riaz on 24th in Arslan case

Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on the application of Arslan Iftikhar against court decision till July 24 and sought reply from real estate tycoon Malik Riaz. On Tuesday, two-member special bench comprised Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain resumed the proceedings of the case of Arslan Iftikhar and Malik Riaz. The lawyer of Malik Riaz, Zahid Bukhari said in his arguments that he has not received any notice regarding review petition filed by Arslan Iftikhar. He objected that the court began the proceedings of the case so early that he could not get time for preparation. The court rejected the objections raised by lawyer of Malik Riaz, Zahid Bukhari and declared that fixation of the cases is only prerogative of the court and it can not begin proceedings of any case after the consultation of the lawyers. The court has also adjourned the hearing of the cases regarding Bahria Town and Revenue Employees Cooperative Housing Scheme till July 24. The court also asked all the applicants to go according to prescribed procedure in order to save the time of the court. The lawyer of Arslan Iftikhar, Sardar Ishaq told the court that Attorney General wrote a letter to Chairman NAB on 21 June asking him start of inquiry. The AG has demanded reply  within 15 days from NAB. He said that he as a lawyer of Arslan Iftikhar had some objection on it .He also wrote a letter to Chairman NAB on behalf of his client. But the Chairman NAB instead of giving reply, hold a press conference . On which he wrote another letter, but NAB did not respond it yet. Justice Jawad S Khawaja said that court ordered to activate the government machinery, but NAB is not the part of it as it is an autonomous organization as government cant sack Chairman NAB and Prosecutor General. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain said that in the review petition, the applicant can only identify the wrong decision but he can not touch the issue of implementation of the verdict.
