Yet another BLOODY DAY in City with 11 killings

KARACHI – The City witnessed another bloody day on Monday as 11 more people were killed and found dead, continuing the nonstop incidents of target killings. A former councilor was gunned down when he was sitting at his scrap shop in Hussainabad within the limits of Azizabad police station. He was identified as 46-year-old Hanif. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to injuries. According to police officials, the deceased was the former councilor at that time when Naimatullah Khan was the city mayor and he contested independently but was presently associated with the MQM as an activist. In Baldia Town, two men were gunned down and another was wounded. Police officials said that one Uzair Baloch, 25, was gunned down and his friend namely Faraz, 22, was injured when at least two armed motorcyclists opened fire at them when they were sitting outside their homes in Baldia Town in Saeedabad police precincts. Moreover, a cable operator namely Mubarak aka Langara was gunned down in Madina Colony. Police officials said that the armed men barged into his home and escaped after shooting. His body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). In Manghopir, a ‘Muazzin’ of Jamia Masjid Faizan and a member of the Tableeghi Jamaat were gunned down and another was injured in two separate incidents of target killings in Manghopir police precincts. The victim identified as Afnan Baloch, 60, son of Dur Baloch, was gunned down when he was sitting outside the Masjid on Manghopir Road, Sultanabad. Tableeghi Jamaat’s member identified as Ilyas Khan Mehsud, 35, was killed and his companion namely Abdul Hakeem, 34, was injured when armed motorcyclists targeted them near Frontier Colony when they were returning from a religious congregation. Another young man who has yet to be identified was gunned down in an incident of target killing in Orangi Town. Meanwhile, the bodies of at least five people were found from different parts of the City. The bodies of the two young men namely Tauseef Jhokio and Imran were found within Khokhrapar police remits. Law enforcers said that unidentified culprits escaped after dumping three young men. Police found two of them dead while another namely Ahmed Ali was still alive when it reached the site. They were transported them to the JPMC. Police officials said that the body of Jhokio’s brother namely Rehan alias Dangar was found from Model Colony area on Sunday. They said that about three dozen cases of crime were registered against Jhokio and his brother while their companion, who also died and injured, were among their friends. Initial investigation suggested that both the brothers had links with the notorious gangster group of Lyari while the motive behind their killings have yet to be ascertained. The victims were the residents of same areas. Their funeral prayers were offered in Model Colony and later were buried in the Model Colony graveyard. Score of funeral attendants also staged protest against the killings and blocked traffic on the roads linking Airport, Model Colony and Malir Cantt. The mob also pelted several vehicles with stones and burnt tyres on the roads in presence of heavy contingent of Rangers and police. However, they dispersed after the Rangers and police officials ensured them of full cooperation. Two more bodies of the young friends were found from MA Jinnah Road. A 32-year-old Abdul Sattar was found dead near Tibat Centre within Preedy police remits while the body of his friend identified as Anees Rajput, 31, was found near the City Courts. Both the victims were the residents of Dalmia locality. Police officials said that both of them were firstly kidnapped and later tortured and shot.Police have yet to aso far been ascertain the motive behind their killings. Another body of a man who has yet to be identified was found from Nayabad, Lyari. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital and later moved to morgue for identificarion after autopsy. A rangers personnel namely Sheikh Nasir, son of Habib, was injured in a firing incident in Ramswami area of old City area. He was taken to the Civil Hospital.
