Joint Opposition to file no-trust motion against Speaker

ISLAMABAD - The joint opposition is mulling to submit a no-confidence motion against National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser in the NA secretariat after the budget session accusing him of being biased during the budget session.

The joint opposition has formed a body to contemplate moving the no-confidence motion on a ‘suitable time’ after the ongoing budget session.

The opposition members of the committee Including Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, Shazia Marri, Ayaz Sadiq and Rana Sana Ullah will decide moving the no-confidence motion, while the members from Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) will also join the body to share their opinion. The opposition had already submitted a no-confidence motion against National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri by levelling allegations of biasness in the house. The opposition is also pushing the speaker national assembly to take up the no-confidence motion against Qasim Suri without any delay.

‘NA chair is biased towards Opposition benches’

The no-confidence motion said the deputy speaker sided with the government on eleven occasions while ignoring voice of the opposition and question of lack of quorum in the House. “The deputy speaker also deprives the elected representatives of their right of speech thus suppressing the voice of people of Pakistan,” the motion said.

The PML-N members including Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Khurran Dastgir Khan and Romina Khurshid Alam had submitted the motion which bears signatures of members from all the opposition parties. The no-confidence motion has been submitted under Rule 12 of Rules of Business and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly.
