Court maintains Musharraf arrest warrant

Islamabad - A local court yesterday maintained its earlier orders regarding the issuance of non-bailable arrest warrant of former military ruler General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf in Ghazi murder case.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Pervez Qadir Memon conducted the hearing and adjourned the proceedings till April 2 by maintaining arrest warrants of Musharraf.
During the hearing, one guarantor of Musharraf appeared before the court and second guarantor remained absent due to his illness while the police submitted its report about arrest warrants.
Musharraf’s counsel submitted an application seeking one day exemption for his client, saying that the former president was admitted in the hospital and could not appear before the court due to his sickness.
Tariq Asad Advocate, counsel for the plaintiff, opposed the application seeking exemption and contended that every time, a new medical report is submitted by the accused.
After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court turned down Musharraf’s application seeking exemption and deferred the matter till April 2 for further proceedings.
On the last hearing, the court had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the former president and rejected his plea seeking permanent exemption from appearing in Abdul Rashid Ghazi murder case.
The court also issued non-bailable arrest warrant for Musharraf and ordered the authorities concerned to produce him before the court on the next date of hearing.
Musharraf has never appeared before the court during 55 hearings of the case. This is fourth non-bailable arrest warrants for Musharraf in this case.
Previously, Advocate Tariq Asad, the counsel for the plaintiff, had alleged that pressure is being exerted on them and this court for acquittal of General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf from Ghazi Abdul Rashid murder case.
He had asked the additional sessions judge Islamabad, who heard the case of killing of Maulana Abdul Rasheed and others, that the court should pass the verdict on merit; instead of keeping in mind that former army chief is accused in this case.
