OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE Syed Ali Hashmi elected new President, Asher Butt as Secretary General and Zulqarnain Sheikh as treasurer in the Sports Journalist Association Lahore (SJAL) elections held here at the National Hockey Stadium on Monday. The elections were held under the chair of Senior Sports Journalist Raza Hameed. As many as 48 members of SJAL cast their votes. Ali Hashmi got 27 votes against 21 votes and was elected as President while Zulqarnain Shiekh got 27 votes against 21 for the seat of Treasurer. The most thrilling and interesting competition was for the seat of Secretary General in which both candidates Asher Butt and Sohail Imran got 24 votes each. Later, Sohail Imran withdrew from his post and after that, Asher Butt became the Secretary General of SJAL. Senior Sports Journalist Shahid Sheikh appreciated Sohail Imran step and paid tribute to him for this noble sacrifice. Mona Runa (SVP), Mansoor Khan (VP), Azhar Kazmi and Abdul Qayum Associate Secretaries and Shahzad Malik Information Secretary were also declared successful. Newly-elected president SJAL Syed Ali Hashmi thanked all the members for their support. He said he would work for the promotion of workers without any discrimination and try his best to unite all the members to just work for the welfare of every journalist. Ali Hashmi also announced that the first meeting of the association would be held on May 30. Meanwhile, the officials of Pakistan Cricket Board, Pakistan Hockey Federation, Pakistan Squash Federation, LCCA Secretary Mian Javed Ali, Perveen Sikandar Gill of PHF Women Wing, President and Secretary Pakistan Rugby Union Fawzi Khawaja and Arif Saeed, Khurram Haroon, and many others congratulated Syed Ali Hashmi and his panel on their superb victory over opponents.
