Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, has reiterated that lasting peace in South Asia hinges on the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

In an interview with a British media outlet, Ambassador Iftikhar emphasized that peace in the region cannot be achieved without addressing the core issue of Kashmir in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

He acknowledged the efforts of former U.S. President Donald Trump in facilitating a ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India, and expressed Pakistan’s continued commitment to maintaining a permanent ceasefire with its neighbour.

However, he noted that while Pakistan remains dedicated to peaceful engagement, the overall situation remains fragile and uncertain.

Ambassador Iftikhar underscored that the Kashmir issue remains a longstanding and unresolved dispute between the two countries, and must be addressed in accordance with the will of the Kashmiri people.
