Sir Syed University preserves two-nation theory, says Rana Mashhood

KARACHI  -  The Department of Computer Science & Information Technology of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) organized a seminar on the topic of AI Emerging Technology for Youth Empowerment. The Chief Guest of the event was the Chairman,  Prime Minister Youth Program, Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan.

Prime Minister Youth Program Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said that Sir Syed University is an institution that has preserved both the two-nation theory, and the vision of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. We are committed to cooperating with this institution in every possible way. Pakistan Danish Authority has been established to benefit youth across the entire country. Now, apart from Punjab, other provinces would also benefit fully from this program. The Digital Youth Hub is a unique portal in the world, launched on March 26, has already registered 2 million young individuals and features over 100 companies offering employment opportunities. We are also in the process of introducing the first National Youth Policy.

In announcing the launch of the Youth Employment Policy, he mentioned that approval has been secured for seven state-of-the-art AI labs across Pakistan, with one to be established in Karachi. Our current focus is on investment. During the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Belarus, they extended an offer of 150,000 jobs to Pakistan.

Sir Syed University Chancellor Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan stated that his father, Engineer Muhammad Zakir Ali Khan, was among the founders of the institution. He, along with his colleagues, had made a policy that any student who enters Sir Syed University will graduate with a degree, his financial hardship will not be allowed to become an obstacle in the path of education. We are going to restart the process of reaching out to students who cannot continue their education due to unfavorable circumstances.

He said that the Prime Minister Youth Program established in collaboration with UNICEF, serves as a model of progress and achievement. The Digital Youth Hub of the Prime Minister Youth Program provides a platform that will connect the youth with job opportunities, education, entrepreneurship, and more. The Prime Minister’s Youth Program is performing exceptionally well in fostering independence and empowerment among the youth of Pakistan.

Chancellor Muhammad Akbar Ali Khan proposed a collaboration between Sir Syed University and the Prime Minister Youth Program to establish a Digital Youth Hub in Karachi, saying that Sir Syed University is ready to provide land for the construction of a Digital Youth Hub building in Karachi so that 22.4 million young people can benefit from the education and professional expertise of Sir Syed University. This collaboration will play an active role in bringing about positive change and unleashing the potential of the youth.

Vice Chancellor SSUET, Dr. Jafar Nazir Usmani said that the youth is a vital segment of our society who play a significant role in nation-building. They are the architects of the future and drive social and economic development. Their enthusiasm, creativity, and readiness to challenge the status quo make them an essential source of positive change.

Dr Jafar Usmani pointed out that as an emerging technology, AI stands as a powerful tool for youth empowerment. As we approach a new era, it is our collective responsibility to embrace this technology and shape it for the betterment of society. Universities’ role in this journey is remarkable, serving as incubators for knowledge, innovation, and ethical practices regarding AI. Focusing on the potential of AI to empower us, pave the way for a brighter future for generations to come.

Chairman, Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, Dr. Kashif Sheikh said that a proposal to set up two modern AI labs at Sir Syed University is under consideration, which requires government support. He emphasized the need for Karachi’s universities to receive focus and attention as part of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program.
