Germany, UK, Denmark leaders call PM Imran Khan, discuss Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Imran Khan discussed the overall situation in Afghanistan with several world leaders on Tuesday, officials said. 

Prime Minister Imran Khan received a telephone call from German Chancellor Ms Angela Merkel on Tuesday. The two leaders exchanged views on the rapidly evolving situation in Afghanistan. 

Prime Minister Imran Khan underscored the immense importance of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan for Pakistan and the region. The Prime Minister also stressed that safety and security as well as protection of the rights of all Afghans was critically important.

The Prime Minister underlined that an inclusive political settlement was the best way forward.

The Prime Minister stated that Pakistan is reaching out to all Afghan leaders. The international community must also stay engaged, particularly to support the people of Afghanistan economically.

The Prime Minister added that Pakistan was facilitating evacuation of diplomatic personnel and staff of international organisations from Afghanistan.

Bilaterally, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction at regular high-level exchanges between Pakistan and Germany. He added that Pakistan looked forward to enhance collaboration with Germany in all areas of mutual interest. Both the leaders agreed to remain in close contact.

 also, Prime Minister Imran Khan received a telephone call from his Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen on Tuesday. The two leaders exchanged views on the evolving situation in Afghanistan.

Imran Khan shared Pakistan’s perspective, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safety and security as well as protection of rights of all Afghans. He also underscored the importance of working out an inclusive political settlement.

The Pakistani Prime Minister highlighted Islamabad’s facilitating role in the evacuation of diplomatic personnel and staff of international organizations and others from Afghanistan, as requested.

The Prime Minister of Denmark thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan for Pakistan’s support and assistance in their evacuation endeavours.

 

Prime Minister Imran Khan also received a telephone call from British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The two Prime Ministers exchanged views on the latest situation in Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Imran Khan underscored the paramount importance of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan for Pakistan. The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of an inclusive political settlement in Afghanistan. The two Prime Ministers agreed to remain in contact with respect to the evolving situation in Afghanistan.

 

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed strong support and solidarity for the fraternal people of Afghanistan, linked to the people of Pakistan through immutable bonds of faith, history, geography, culture and kin-ship.

He was talking to the members of a delegation of political leaders from Afghanistan, who called on him in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister underlined that no other country is more desirous of peace and stability in Afghanistan than Pakistan.

He said that in the current situation, great responsibility rested on the Afghan leaders to work constructively together to lead Afghanistan on the path of sustainable peace, stability and development.

The Prime Minister underscored the importance of all sides working to secure an inclusive political solution.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful and stable Afghanistan, Imran Khan assured of Pakistan’s steadfast support for efforts in this direction.

The delegation members thanked the Prime Minister for receiving them and appreciated Pakistan’s support for the peace efforts. They emphasized the multi-ethnic nature of Afghan society and the importance of an inclusive dispensation.

The Afghan delegation also reiterated the desire to further strengthen the brotherly relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
