The United States’ decision to halt visitor visas for people from Gaza under the pretext of “security” reveals, once more, the lopsided morality that governs Washington’s foreign policy. At the very same moment, an Israeli paedophile with ties to the current Israeli government was quietly allowed to walk free on American soil without charge. The contrast is not just stark—it is damning.

What message does this send other than that Palestinian lives, even when seeking nothing more than refuge or respite, are to be treated as threats, while Israeli offenders, regardless of their crimes, are to be shielded? This hypocrisy is not an anomaly; it is a pattern, one that runs deep into the blood-soaked ground of Gaza. Israel’s genocide against Palestinians continues unabated precisely because it has been consistently funded, armed, and politically covered by the very powers that lecture the world about human rights and the “rules-based order.”

One may be forgiven for wondering what “rules” are left to invoke. The rules of expedience, perhaps; the rules of a civilisation determined to preserve its ally’s impunity at all costs. Yet history is an unforgiving judge. It does not forget the silences, the vetoes at the UN, the billions funnelled into weaponry, nor the selective blindness to war crimes. The shame of this complicity will not vanish, nor can it be swept under the rug by press briefings and diplomatic spin.

The Western civilisation, so eager to claim moral superiority, is etching its legacy in the ruins of Gaza. And when the dust settles, no amount of rhetoric will absolve it of the charge of having been not a bystander, but an enabler.
