ISLAMABAD - All set to hold First Aisamul Haq Masters Tennis Championship being commenced from today (Monday) at the PTF Complex, this was revealed by the spokesman of PTF here on Sunday. During a formal chat with this scribe, Irshad Bhatti said, the main aim of organizing this tournament is to pay tribute to Pakistan ace tennis star Aisam, who is a true ambassador of the country and won many laurels for Pakistan. He said that Aisam deserves to be honoured and the Federation duly recognizes his matchless contributions in the field of tennis. He further said, Aisam and his father will be the chief guests at the opening ceremony which will start at 5:00 pm at the Complex. PTF is organizing this event in collaboration with Hashoo Group and event carries Rs 0.7 million, the biggest prize money in the history of Pakistan. Irshad Bhatti said: We have written a letter to Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and requested to change the name of the PTF Complex Road as Aisamul Haq road, to pay tribute to the son of the soil. He further said: We will fulfil all the promises we made and are here to serve tennis without any discrimination. After Ramazan we will start our fund raising campaign and the second phase of school talent hunt programme, he said. He said more than 10 organisations are ready to join hands with PTF after watching our four-year plan to promote tennis in the country. On Kaleem Imam's return a meeting in this regard will be called for to finalize a plan for at least one year. He once again asked former tennis greats to come forward and work together with federation to find and groom talent at grassroots level as their experience is matchless. Irshad Bhatti has appealed to all tennis lovers and fans to visit PTF Complex and buck up the players during the entire tournament. Earlier, the draw ceremony of the Championship was held at PTF Tennis Complex under the supervision of ITF Officials M Arif Qureshi and Shahzad Akhtar Alvi. Top players Aqeel Khan, Jalil Khan were also present on the occasion. According to the men's singles draw top 4 seeds are Aqeel Khan, Jalil Khan, Yasir Khan and M. Abid Mushtaq. In the ladies event, Saba Aziz of Lahore is No.1 and Sara Mansoor is No.2 seed, in the boys Under-18 event Top 4 seeds are M. Abid Mushtaq, Usman, Ahmed Ch. and Kashan ul Haq. In the boys Under-14 category top 4 seeds are M Mudasir, Hasnain Mansoor, Hamza Bin Asif and M Muzamil. Top 16 ranked players from all over the country are participating in the championship. The first round matches will start at 9:30am today (Monday).
