KARACHI - At least eight more people fell prey to the unabated violence in the commercial capital of the country on Sunday. The fist most fatal incident took place in the limits of Saeedabad Police Station where three men were shot dead by unknown assailants. The incident took place in Sector 8, Baldia Town, where victims, identified as Sajid Khan Afridi, Zahid Baloch and Jehanzaib were shot dead. Their bodies were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Police said one of the victims named Afridi was a police constable and was posted to the Garden Police Headquarters. Afridi along with the two other victims was running a water supply business. Rest of the two victims were the residents of Musharraf Colony and were on the way to somewhere for business purpose on a motorcycle when the incident took place. Investigation Officer Maula Buksh said the culprits were also on a motorcycle and used Kalashnikovs. The officer said that the victims had no affiliation with any political or religious party. In another incident of target killing, an activist of PPI was shot dead in the limits of Al-Falah Police Station. Tension gripped various localities of Malir over killing of a local leader of the Punjabi Pakhtoon Ittehad (PPI) who was gunned down in Kehkashan Society. Victim was identified as Wali Mohammad Arain, 35. Following the killing of PPI worker, exchange of fire was continuing in the area and heavy contingent of law enforcers was deployed to avert any other incident. Police said deceased was killed for demanding extortion money from shopkeepers in Kehkashan Society. But PPI, trying to conceal the facts, restored to intense firing in the locality, resulting in clash between PPI and MQM workers. An activist of the Awami National Party was gunned down in a drive-by shooting near Ayesha Manzil, Federal B Area in the jurisdiction of Gulberg Police Station. ANP Sindh spokesman Qadir Khan claimed that deceased, identified as Jawad, was associated with Shafiq Mor Ward. Meanwhile, a driver was gunned down when unidentified persons opened fire at a trawler in Sarjani in the jurisdiction of Sarjani Police Station. The body was handed over to the family after autopsy while the cause of murder was yet to be ascertained. Gulshan-e-Iqbal police on Sunday also found a body of a man and shifted the same to morgue for identification after autopsy at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. A 20-year-old youth Rafiullah alias Raja was gunned down near his residence in Sector 11.5, Orangi Town in Pakistan Bazaar police precincts. Police said he had no political affiliation and was believed to be killed over personal enmity. Police handed over the body to the family after autopsy.
