Another nine killed in violence spree



KARACHI – At lest nine more people were killed in the current wave of target killings here on Tuesday.The victims included three political workers affiliated with Awami National Party (ANP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Jamaat-e-Islami while police claimed to have arrested two target killers and an alleged operative of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.ANP local leader named Fazal Ameen, 40, was gunned down in an act of target killing in Sherpao Colony within the limits of Quaidabad police station.Police said the deceased was busy fixing his car’s radiator when at least two armed motorcyclists targeted him. He was shot multiple times and died shortly after the incident. His body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy and later moved to his hometown Mardan for burial. Score of ANP workers reached the hospital and shouted slogans against the incident. SHO Amanullah Marwat said that the deceased was associated with the cargo business.Following the incident, the routine and commercial activities were also suspended in the locality while heavy contingent of Rangers and police deployed in sensitive areas to avoid any further untoward incident.Separately, a MQM worker namely 27-year-old Aqeel was gunned down in Qaimkhani Colony within the remits of Baldia police station. Tension prevailed in the area after the incdient and commercial activities were suspended. Police said that the deceased was working in a private factory and was associated with the MQM unit-112. Police were trying to ascertain the motive behind the incident.Another political activist affiliated with Jamaat-e-Islami was gunned down here in the remits of Bilal Colony police station. Police said deceased Rashid Farooqi, 34, left his home situated at Sector 5/G New Karachi when gunmen chased him and shot multiple times. The victim was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced his death. A 35-year-old Saifullah was gunned down in an act of target killing at Bhutto Mor in Manghopir. Police officials said that the deceased was a massager by profession and was sitting at a barber shop when unidentified armed men shot him dead. SHO Chaudhry Basheer said that the deceased lived in Sultanabad and belonged to Southern Punjab while the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained. In Nazimabad, a 42-year-old man identified as Altaf was killed within the limits of Shamim Shaheed police post. Police officials said that the deceased was killed by his business partner namely Saleem over monetary dispute. Police officials also claimed to have arrested the accused and initiated further investigation. Meanwhile, Pak Colony police claimed to have arrested an alleged member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. The alleged militant identified as Inamullah was a resident of Frontier Colony. Police officials said that the suspect was arrested after a brief encounter when police conducted raid about his presence near Mewa Shah graveyard. Four of his companions were managed to escape. Police said that the suspect hailed from Tehsil Matta, Swat and involved in murder of two police officers namely ASI Ghufran of CID and head constable Abdul Qayyum in Pathan Colony in June 2012. On the other side, East Zone Police claimed to have arrested an alleged member of the notorious Baba Ladla group of Lyari. The suspect was identified as Shahid aka Churail. Police also claimed to have recovered a hand grenade, a TT pistol and five kilograms of hashish from his possession. He further said he was arrested after a brief encounter in Khokhrapar area. The accused, during initial course of interrogation, confessed to have killed ASI Aslam and several men belonging to the Urdu speaking and Kutchi community while further investigation was underway. Law enforcement agencies also claimed to have arrested a suspect, namely Javed aka Bunda during a raid in Buffer Zone locality. The suspect belonged to the land mafia and he was wanted in more than 50 criminal cases.Moreover, a worker of Awami National Party was shot dead here in the remits of Mominabad police station. Police said that deceased Ghulam Naseer, 40, resident of Faqeer Colony, was standing outside his home when gunmen riding a motorbike came and shot him. The assassins managed to flee while Naseer was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. Following the murder, tension gripped up in the locality where law enforcers rushed to maintain the situation. Police said that deceased had a criminal background and police had been looking for him in more than 25 criminal cases.In another incident, a target killer was shot dead when he was trying to escape after killing a man within the limits of Orangi Town police station.Police said 40-year-old Rehmatullah was riding a motorbike when another rider chased him and shot near sector 1, Orangi. Assailant was trying to flee when residents of the area caught him and shot him dead. Bodies of both the persons were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The body of the assailant was yet to be identified and shifted it to the morgue. Police suspected personal enmity the reason behind the killing.A 42-year-old man was shot dead within the remits of Garden police station. Police said that gunmen, riding a motorbike, shot the victim Fazal Rehman at Oil Lane and managed to flee. Police said the deceased had a shop in Garden area while the cause of the murder was yet to be ascertained. The body of the deceased has been shifted to Civil Hospital.
