PESHAWAR – Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has demanded of the government to stop Nato supplies, US drone attacks and military operations in tribal areas in addition to abolishment of agreements with the US, warning that otherwise it would launch a massive agitation movement.

On the concluding day of JI two-day sit-in, different resolutions were presented, wherein the JI stressed upon the government to revisit its decision to resume Nato supplies. Speakers said on the occasion that the supplies restoration was not acceptable to the nation, but the government succumbed to US pressure.

The two-day sit-in was started on Monday at Bagh-e-Naran Chowk, Hayatabad, while on its last day it was converted into a rally, which moved towards Khyber Pass for its concluding session. Despite the scorching heat, hundreds of JI workers and common tribesmen including elders and youths from different parts of the tribal agencies participated in the sit-in against Nato supplies restoration and drone attacks inside tribal areas.  Addressing the protest march at Khyber Pass, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer, Syed Munawar Hassan said that military operations were not a sustainable solution to any dispute, adding that the security forces were still there in Swat after passage of several years of military assault. He announced to launch a movement against the restoration of Nato supplies and US spy drone attacks. He also hailed the efforts of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in missing persons issue, saying that owing to this step more than 40 persons were recovered.

“Today, the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata have announced a movement against Nato supplies restoration that will surely bear fruit, as they would compel the rulers to follow the aspirations of masses while taking decisions regarding their future.

“We are law-abiding people and believe in following of the Constitution,” he said.  He said soon an Islamic revolution would also come in Pakistan like a revolution came in Egypt. “We have taken the flag of Islam and stood up to take the country out of the US influence. Our struggle will continue till the country independence from the US slavery,” JI Ameer Munawar Hassan said.

About the military operation in tehsil Bara of Khyber Agency, he said that it meant to compel the tribesmen to migrate. As the government had earlier said to eradicate terrorism from its roots, while conducting military operation in Malakand division, due to which millions of people were compelled to leave their homes but still security forces were stayed their, he maintained.  Earlier, JI Naib Ameer Sirajul Haq said that Pak-Afghan main route (Khyber Pass) would never allow destruction of Afghan masses.

He stressed need for halting supply of weapons, alcohols and other things for US-led allied forces stationed in Afghanistan through these routes. He said that the US was their enemy, due to which today their homes, mosques, and Hujras were not safe. He added that even they have defamed their passports across the world.

Due to the imperialist designs of the US, thousands of innocent people were killed, he said, adding that on the other hand industry of the country was destroyed.

He said that due to increasing unemployment a large number of people were passing through immense difficulties.

Siraj also criticised both PPP-led central and ANP-led provincial governments, and blamed that 40 years earlier PPP had fragmented the motherland and now once again they have bent upon to completely destroy the country.  He condemned the provincial government for a statement to provide security to Nato supplies, and said that the so-called nationalists have badly failed to provide security to its own masses. The government has plunged the masses into civil war-like situation in the province by pushing masses into ‘Amn Lashkars’, for which the govt is responsible. On this occasion, JI, KP, Ameer Prof Ibrahim Khan said that restoration of Nato supplies were also in violation of Islamic Sharia, Constitution and disrespect to the resolutions passed by the parliament.

He added that renowned Ulema have already given decry terming it un-Islamic and urged those attached with the Nato supplies to left the business.

JI Fata Ameer Sahibzada Haroonur Rasheed and Khyber Agency Ameer Shah Faisal Afridi also addressed the gathering.
