SNGPL suspends gas supply to industries, CNG sector

ISLAMABAD - Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) on Saturday suspended the gas supply to the industries and CNG sector for indefinite period of time in order to manage gas load.

“With reference to the subject, we wish to inform that in line with the directions of the Ministry and in order to manage gas loads on our system, it has been decided to suspend gas supply to all CNGs and general industries till improvement of the situation,” SNGPL stated in a letter written to the CNG Association.

All Pakistan CNG Association has expressed serious concerns over the government’s decision of suspending gas supply to the CNG sector. Ghiyas Paracha, leader of All Pakistan CNG Association, said that SNGPL is suspending gas to all CNG stations and general industries with immediate effect in Punjab & KP provinces due to the shortage. “It’s not acceptable and fair to us, Petroleum Division is under pressure from Power Division,” he added.

He further said that government is not allowing the CNG sector to import the LNG due to the differences among various Ministries. The CNG sector has been destroyed due to the policies of the present government. The government, he said, has imposed sales tax on CNG sector. The government is facing shortage of gas and furnace oil. Therefore, it has stopped the supply of gas to CNG sector, he added.
