5,000 Sindh schools on verge of closure

KARACHI (PPI) - Despite tall claims of successive governments, including present one, that a large number of closed school across Sindh have been reopened, as many as 6458 schools were still lying closed in the province, of them over 5000 mainly because of non-availability of teaching staff, official sources in provincial education and literacy department told PPI. The Tharparkar tops the 23 districts of Sindh where 1086 government schools are non-functional and of them 1016 only for this reason - non-availability of teaching staff. Nawabshah, Khairpur, Kambar, Dadu, Badin, Umerkot, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Mirpur Khas, Thatta, Tando Muhammad Khan, Shikarpur and Jamshoro follow the desert district where 490, 425, 448, 443, 566, 371, 278, 312, 263, 294, 262, 263, 201 schools respectively are lying closed of them 423, 386, 357, 381, 355, 359, 273, 266, 233, 274, 203, 203 and 166 schools respectively are inoperative for the same reason, sources told quoting the data compiled by the department. In Sanghar district there are 94 schools out of 123, Sukkur 78 out of 89, Tando Allahyar 93 out of 105, Ghotki 71 out of 128, Larkana 56 out of 66, Matiari 56 out of 50, Naushehro Feroze 59 out of 84, Hyderabad 07 out of 15 and Karachi 24 out of 90 schools are lying closed for non-availability of teachers. In Badin district 22 schools are closed for low enrolment, 07 schools for other schools in vicinity, 03 for odd location, 43 schools for having no building, 27 schools for want of repair and 109 for other reasons. In Dadu district 12 schools are closed due to low enrolment, 08 for other schools in vicinity, 09 for having no building, 12 for want of repair and 21 for other reasons. As many as 25 schools are closed in Ghotki district for having low enrolment while 05 for other schools in vicinity, 03 for odd location, 09 each for having no building and want of repair and 06 for other reasons. The Hyderabad district has 03 schools closed for other schools in vicinity, 03 for having no building and 02 for other reasons while the Jacobabad district has 05 schools closed for having no building. The number of schools closed in Jamshoro for low enrolment is only 03 while 06 for want of repair and 26 for other reasons.
