NEW YORK - Former California Governor and Hollywood movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife separated after she learned he had a child years ago with a household employee, the ex-governor said. Maria Shriver moved out of the couples mansion in Brentwood earlier this year after Schwarzenegger admitted to fathering the child more than a decade ago with the woman who worked for the family for 20 years, The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday. After leaving the governors office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago, Schwarzenegger said late Monday in a statement to the Times. I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry. A spokesman for Ms. Shriver said she had no comment. Californias former first couple announced their separation last week after 25 years of marriage and four children. No reason was given. The former staffer, whom the Times did not name, had said her then-husband was the childs father. When told of Schwarzeneggers statement, she declined further comment. She said she left her position voluntarily earlier this year after reaching her goal of working for them for two decades. I wanted to achieve my 20 years, then I asked to retire, the woman said, adding she left on good terms with them.
