OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - Seikhupura Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tuesday fully endorsed the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry initiative for establishment of Seikhupura Dry Port Trust at Chichukimalian. The support was announced by the President Sheikhupura Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tariq Iqbal Mughal while addressing LCCI Executive Committee at Sheikhupura Chamber of Commerce and Industry. LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik, Senior Vice President sheikh Mohammad Arshad, SCCI Vice Presidents Sheikh Navid Anwaar, Sheikh Abdul Hafiz and former President Sheikhupura Chamber of Commerce and Industry Manzoorul Haq Malik also spoke on the occasion. Both the Lahore and Sheikhupura Chambers of Commerce also decided to form a committee to finalise members for the expansion of Sheikhupura Dry Port Trust. Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik gave a detailed briefing to the Executive Committee of the SCCI on Sheikhupura Dry Port Trust. He said that the sole objective of having another Dry Port at Chichukimalian in Sheikhupura district was to make the trade and industry competitive by reducing delivery time and cost. He said that the project was well on way and it would be a fully equipped, State-of-Art Dry Port that would be ensuring cost-effective and efficient logistic solutions to promote economic activities in the region.He said that the successful models of private sector-managed Dry Port already exist in the shape of Faisalabad Dry Port and Sialkot Dry Port. He informed the meeting that Faisalabad Dry Port has a capacity to handle 33,000 export cargo containers. It can handle as many as 5500 import consignments per annum, having a value of over Rs 80 billion. Same way, he said, the Sialkot Dry Port can handle up to 29000 export cargo containers worth over Rs 46 billion.
