THATTA  - Scores of Awami Tehreek workers, local leaders, and people from different walks of life converged in village Mungar Khan Palijo to bid a farewell to Hurunisa Palijo, a dynamic political figure, human rights activist, and social worker, on Saturday. Carrying the flags of Awami Tahreek in their hands, a large number of women and men stood on both sides of the road while her body was being moved to Jungshahi, her ancestral town. Hurunisa breathed her last at the age of 81 in a private hospital in Karachi late Friday night after battling a respiratory disease. She was the sister of the eminent politician, ideologist, and activist Rasool Bux Palijo, and remained his ardent supporter throughout her life. Paying tribute to her, the provincial president of Awami Tahreek, Advocate Wasand Thari, said that she was a role model for suppressed and underprivileged women of Sindh who remained at the forefront, whenever Sindhis needed her. Mentioning her key contributions, he said that Ms Palijo was among the founding members of Sindhiyani Tahreek, a sister organization of Awami Tahreek, and also served as its central president. Thari further said that she visited every nook and corner of Sindh to create awareness among women living in remote areas and apprised them of their rights. Another key leader of AT, Dada Abdul Qadir Ranto, described her as a brave woman who actively participated in various political movements, mainly the MRD and anti-six canals movement. General Secretary of AT, Sajjad Mahesar, also expressed her condolences. A former PPP senator, Sassui Palijo, expressed deep grief at the demise of her aunt and termed it a huge loss for the politics of Sindh. Ayaz Latif Palijo said that Hurunisa Palijo, being a political activist, always followed in the footsteps of her brother Rasool Bux Palijo and established herself as a prominent political entity of Sindh. The coffin of the veteran political figure was draped in the red and black coloured party flag of Awami Tahreek. Scores of Sindhiyani Tahreek workers, including Umra Samoon, sang nationalist songs and chanted slogans in her favour while she was being lowered into the grave.
