A remote-controlled bomb exploded near an armoured police vehicle in the Ashrogi area of Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Sunday.

According to police officials, the blast did not cause any casualties or major damage. However, the explosion was immediately followed by an exchange of gunfire after unidentified assailants opened fire on the police personnel.

The attackers managed to escape following the brief firefight. In response, security forces launched a search operation in the area to track down the suspects.

This latest incident highlights the growing security concerns in the region, particularly targeting law enforcement agencies.

Earlier, on April 15, a deadly attack in Mastung, Balochistan, claimed the lives of at least three personnel and injured 16 others. That explosion, triggered by a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) planted on a motorcycle, targeted a police truck carrying personnel from the Balochistan Constabulary.

Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed the incident and noted that the personnel were deployed to provide security for a Balochistan National Party (BNP) protest. Two of the injured remain in critical condition, and the severely wounded were shifted to Quetta for specialised treatment.

Authorities continue to investigate both attacks as part of broader efforts to combat the persistent threat of militancy in the country.
