MIRPURKHAS - Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on Sindh Affairs Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Friday relaunched the Marvi Express, whose service between Mirpurkhas and Khokhrapar was suspended along with a number of other train services about a year-and-a-half ago on account of coronavirus pandemic. After cutting the ribbon to mark resumption of the train’s service at Mirpurkhas railway station and taking a brief ride on the train, the former Sindh chief minister told media persons that Marvi Express and a number of other trains had been suspended in March last year and now the prime minister and federal minister for railways had ordered resumption of its service amid growing demand. He said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s MNA from Umerkot Lal Malhi had also played his role in getting the train service restored, which provided cheap travel facility to people of the region.

He said in reply to various questions that the rail system in the country should be up to the mark because it was a cheap mode of travel and many countries of the world subsidised it to facilitate people’s journey. In the past, a nexus of transporters and transport ministers also played a role in failing the rail system but it was now getting better with each passing day and the department was restoring suspended train services, he said. He said that in the past many people had not been used to purchasing tickets for trains but the problem had been solved to a great extent now. A broad gauge line had been laid on this track till the Monabao-Khokhrapar border for the Thar Express train during Gen Pervez Musharraf-led government, he said.

PTI MNA Lal Malhi, PTI Mirpurkhas president Aftab Qureshi and others including Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, Raja Abdul Haq, Zulfiqar Bhatti and railway officers attended the inauguration ceremony.
