RAWALPINDI - The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 companions was observed with religious zeal and fervour here on Saturday.

To protect the participants of main and other processions, the Rawalpindi police along with personnel of other law enforcement agencies have made very tight security arrangements.

Several thousand policemen and personnel of the law enforcement agencies had cordoned off the entire route of the procession since Friday night. They had put barricades on the streets and roads along the route. Resultantly, no untoward incident took place.

The security arrangements were monitored by Regional Police Officer Imran Ahmer, City Police Officer Syed Shehzad Nadim Bukhari, SSP Operations Wasim Riaz Khan, SP Rawal Division Babar Javed Joya and other senior officers.

Tens of thousands of people participated in the processions taken out in connection with Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

Vehicles of arms and ammunition, bomb disposal squad, city fire brigade, Rescue 1122, ambulance squads of hospitals and technical sweeping personnel were put on high alert on the day.

Anti-riot personnel, police women patrolled the city. However, no untoward incident was reported from any part of the city. 

In their sermons, the religious scholars threw light on the significance of the supreme sacrifices rendered by ‘Shuhuda-e-Karbala,’ resisting the infidel and evil forces of Yazeed.

Scholars and Ulema cited portions from thought-provoking addresses of Hazrat Bibi Zainab (SA), sister of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), that she had delivered in the court of Yazeed and elsewhere after the Karbala tragedy.

They called upon the Ummah to follow the footprints of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and inculcate the spirit of sacrifice for the glory of Islam, while commemorating the most tragic incident of Islamic history,

Central Chehlum procession of the twin cities was taken out from Imambargah Ashiq Hussain Teli Mohallah, Imambargah Col. Maqbool Hussain and Imambargah Hifazat Ali Shah Bohar Bazaar. 

Thousands of Azadars participated in the procession while the central leadership of Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqah Jafariya led the procession. The mourners performed Zanjeerzani at Fawara Chowk while Rescue 1122 provided them medical cover.

Scores of sabeels of water and charity food were set up along with routes for the mourners. 

Addressing the mourners and media during the main procession Chehlum, the provincial president of Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqah Jafariya Allama Syed Hussain Muqadassi said that the government would ensure appropriate arrangements for Zaireen as made for Hajj.
