THE end of Pervez Musharraf's regime is a good omen for the national interests, said nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, adding that it would also leave positive impact on Pakistan's economic situation. Talking to a private TV channel on Monday, Dr A Q Khan said that Musharraf killed innocent people and handed over Pakistani citizens to the US to mint dollars. He alleged that Musharraf doled out billions of rupees to an insurance company his son was working with. He hoped that the government would relax the curbs imposed on him. He said that Musharraf earned humiliation and left in an ungraceful manner, as it had always been known every dictator's destiny. He further said that Musharraf targeted political leaders including Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, PML-N leaders Nawaz Sharif and Javed Hashmi. Agencies add: Dr Khan said Musharraf should not be permitted to leave the country but should be arrested and tried. "He should not be allowed to leave the country. He should be arrested and should be tried in the highest court," the scientist told an Indian news agency. He said: "Musharraf is facing the same fate to which he put me in... he forced me to read a statement and to admit mistakes which I never committed. Now, he was forced by someone else to apologise to the nation for his misdeeds and resign. "He has admitted his mistakes and now he should be tried," said Dr Khan, hoping that with Musharraf's resignation, he himself will be freed and the fake charges against him will be withdrawn.
