LAHORE - The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday sought a detailed investigative report till August 30 from federal government and Punjab government about 747 kg imported cats juice named Whisks brought secretly in the country for human consumption. In a reply during proceedings on Wednesday, federal government admitted that Tariq Brothers, Defence Housing Society, Lahore imported 747 kg Whisks juice which is fed to cats in foreign countries but it was not known where it was consumed and who purposed it. Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed seeing the report posed several questions about the fate of those children who consumed cats juice deceived by its labels showing it as mango juice. The judge said it was a horrible condition and no body knows where the juice was sold, who consumed it, and in how much quantity it was still stocked in godown of importer? The judge remarked it was duty of the government to put a check on the mafia groups playing havoc with the health and life of the general public. Ahmed Rauf, additional advocate general speaking on behalf of the Punjab government said that on the directions of the government laboratory tests of the juice in Whisks pouches had been conducted and its results showed that the juice was not food of cats. To this petitioner counsel Muhammad Azhar Siddique rejected the Punjab governments version saying that story of the tests about the juice was an after thought of the government made for face saving and nothing else. He said the city district government as well as provincial government had failed to protect life of the citizens from mafia which is selling adulterated, expired and substandard foods items to the people. Another reply was submitted (on Wednesday) by deputy attorney general Naveed Inayat Malik on behalf of Deputy Collector Dry Port Lahore who claimed his report that neither federal government nor concerned federal departments allowed any body to import substandard and expired food items in the country. However, the judge was not satisfied about any of the government version and passed directions to Punjab government to take help from federal government and its department in the investigation regarding sale and consumption of cats food Whisk and its remaining stocks should be destroyed immediately. As per case, Chairman Judicial Activism penal Azhar Siddique Advocate filed the petition stating imported juice Whisks, which is given to cats in foreign countries, was being sold in Punjab.
