CPSP inaugurates first regional centre in RYK

Rahim Yar Khan  -  The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) has inaugurated its first regional centre in Rahim Yar Khan, a development widely welcomed by medical students, faculty, and the public across the district. The centre was opened at a dignified ceremony attended by CPSP President Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, recipient of the Presidential Award for Pride of Performance and Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore; council members including Prof Dr Mahmood Ayaz, Director General NRPC and Vice Chancellor, King Edward Medical University, Lahore; Senior Vice President CPSP Prof Dr Shoaib Shafi; Prof Dr Aamir Zaman Khan, Director General, Punjab Human Organ Transplant Authority; Maj Gen Prof Dr Mazhar Ishaq; Prof Dr Abrar Ashraf Ali; Prof Dr Jahangir (Abbottabad); Prof Dr Rashid Qamar Rao, Principal, Nishtar Medical College, Multan; Prof Dr Ghulam Mujtaba, CPSP Regional Director, Multan; Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem, Principal, Sheikh Zayed Medical College (SZMC), Rahim Yar Khan; Prof Dr Abdul Majid, CPSP Regional Director, Rahim Yar Khan; and Prof Dr Ali Burhan Mustafa, Chair, Academic Council, Punjab Institute of Mental Health, Lahore, and Head, Department of Psychiatry, SZMC, Rahim Yar Khan, among other eminent clinicians, residents, and a large number of students.

Addressing the ceremony, CPSP President Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal said the initiative would further strengthen medical education and training across Pakistan. He noted that the new regional centre will provide doctors with high-quality training facilities locally, reducing the need to travel to major cities for examinations, workshops, and research programmes. Speaking at the inauguration, SZMC Principal Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem described the centre as a milestone for the region. He said it would not only enhance postgraduate training but also improve the overall public health system.

CPSP Regional Director for Rahim Yar Khan, Prof Dr Abdul Majid, termed the step timely and historic, paying tribute to the CPSP leadership and administration. He added that the centre would promote innovation, quality, and accessibility in the health sector.

Hosting the event, Prof Dr Ali Burhan Mustafa underscored CPSP’s decades-long role in producing specialist physicians and surgeons in the country, noting that the new regional centre would further consolidate that mission.

The ceremony concluded with a prayer and an expression of optimism for the centre’s promising future.
