NAB to seek Mush assets details from ECP, FIA

ISLAMABAD - The National Accountability Bureau has decided to seek asset details of former president Gen (retd) Pervaiz Musharraf from the Election Commission of Pakistan and the Federal Investigation Agency the assets beyond known sources of income case.

NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal during the executive board meeting authorised the inquiry against the former president.

Well-placed sources in NAB told The Nation that the bureau would write a letter to the FIA seeking to provide the former military ruler’s complete travelling history. It would also ask the ECP to provide assets details of Musharraf which he had submitted in his last nomination papers.

The sources also claimed that the NAB also plans to write letters to Bharia Town and Defence Housing Authority administrations seeking details of Musharraf’s plots in the housing societies.

According to the sources, investigation officers of the Rawalpindi bureau have also been ordered to complete ongoing inquiries into the high profile cases including the Musharraf case and submit a report within a month.

Talking to The Nation, a senior NAB official said that NAB has geared up an inquiry against Musharraf and it will write to authorities to cooperate with the NAB in providing the details asked for.

In April, the anti-graft body summoned the main complainant of the case, Lt-Col (retd) Inamur Rahim twice to record his statement and also directed him to provide all evidence related to the case.

The NAB notice issued to Rahim on April 19 says: “Whereas the competent authority has taken cognizance of an offence committed by the accused. Whereas, the subject inquiry has revealed that (you) are in possession of information/evidence whatsoever, which relates to the commission of the said offence.”

“In view, thereof, you are again called to appear along with your CNIC on 30th April, 2018 at NAB Rawalpindi Civic Centre before a Deputy Director along with information/record as discussed in previous meeting dated 30-04-2018, which has neither been attached with your complaints nor provided by you till date including instances of misuse of authority by Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf especially with respect to personal gain, details of residential and commercial plots and agriculture lands as alleged in your complaint dated 02-04-2013, details of allotment of houses from army housing scheme as alleged in your complaint dated 02-04-2013, details of 85 plots allotted to Gen (retd) Yousaf as alleged in your complaint dated 02-04-2013 and photocopies of order of the returning officer in the constituency of Gilgit along with a list of properties submitted with the nomination papers, orders of the Peshawar High Court and the Islamabad High Court.”

The notice further says: “You are advised that failure to comply with this notice may entail penal consequences as provided in section 2 of the schedule of NAO 1999.”

APP ads: NAB chairman Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal said the Bureau had adopted the policy of ‘seeing case not face across the board under its “Accountability of All” policy.

The NAB chairman, in a statement here Monday said the Bureau was committed to nab corrupt, proclaimed offenders and absconders with iron hands as the whole nation had pinned high hopes with NAB for eradication of corruption from the country.

“The NAB along with all stakeholders will come up to the expectations of the nation,” he said, adding that indiscriminate actions of the Bureau had increased its prestige and image manifold due to its visible action against the mighty.

He said that NAB had rejuvenated to eradicate corruption at every cost, adding that all Director Generals of NAB had been directed for not sparing any corrupt, dragging them in the dock.

The chairman directed all ranks of the NAB staff to work hard, transparently and on merit to cleanse the country of corrupt elements.
