LAHORE  -   Diamond Paints and Newage Cables/Master Paints entered the main final of the 1st MidCity President of Pakistan National Open Polo Championship after winning their respective semifinals here at Jinnah Polo Fields on Friday.

In the first semifinal of the day, heroics of Guy Gibrat and Max Charlton helped Diamond Paints hammer Remounts 8-5. Both the heroes cracked a hat-trick each while Ahmed Ali Tiwana banged in a brace. From Remounts, Simon Prado fired in four goals and Mumtaz Abbas Niazi hit one.

Diamond Paints dominated the match right from the word go by pumping in two goals each in the first and second chukkers to have a 4-0 lead. Remounts then banged in a brace to make it 2-4. Diamond Paints enhanced their lead to 7-2 by thrashing in three goals. Both the teams struck one goal each in fourth chukker to make it 8-3. Remounts then scored two goals but it was too little too late for them as they lost the semifinal 5-8.

The day’s second semifinal proved a nail-biting encounter where Newage Cables/Master Paints beat Master Paints by 9-8. Gonzalo Deltour smashed in superb seven goals out of eight for Newage while Vieri Antinori hit the remaining one. For Master Paints, Marcos Panelo slammed in five goals and Martin Carlos hammered a hat-trick.  The main final will be contested between Diamond Paints and Newage Cables/Master Paints on Sunday.
