My recent visit to Gujrat, the headquarters of the district bearing the same name, revealed the visible neglect it is currently suffering. The city’s grand Eidgah Mosque, a remarkable architectural masterpiece built in 1935, is in a dilapidated state. The structure has developed cracks in its main dome and lacks proper decorative upkeep. This aesthetically rich mosque, reminiscent of the Mughal-era Badshahi Mosque in Lahore with its intricate design, serves as the central place of worship for Eid congregations as well as daily prayers.
Moreover, most public parks in Gujrat are also poorly maintained. I therefore urge the local administration to address these issues promptly so that this historic city can attain the dignity and stature it truly deserves.
