The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for most plains of the country over the next two days, with Dadu in Sindh recording a scorching 48°C.

According to the Met Office, temperatures are expected to remain 4 to 6°C above normal in Sindh, Balochistan, southern and central Punjab, and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The weather is likely to stay hot and dry across most regions, with intense heat during the daytime in the plains.

Isolated rain, wind, and thunderstorms are, however, forecast for Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, and Kashmir.

In Sindh, dry and hot conditions are expected to continue, with strong and dusty winds likely in the afternoon.

On Saturday, maximum temperatures were recorded at 48°C in Dadu, followed by 47°C in Jacobabad, Sibi, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Bhakkar, and Sargodha. Mohenjo Daro and Larkana saw temperatures reach 46°C.

Health experts have advised the public to take precautionary measures, including staying hydrated and avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

Meanwhile, a westerly weather system is forecast to enter upper parts of the country on May 19, bringing rain to Kashmir, Islamabad, the Potohar region, northeastern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan on May 19 and 20.
