The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued a public alert warning citizens about scammers posing as HEC officials and using fake websites to extract sensitive information.

In a post on X, the commission shared a short awareness video, cautioning that HEC never requests one-time passwords (OTPs), bank details, or passwords from individuals. “HEC never calls for payment attestation or asks for sensitive information,” the video emphasized.

Citizens were strongly urged to avoid responding to suspicious calls or engaging with unofficial websites. The HEC clarified that it operates through a single official website where all verified information is made available.

The commission advised the public to report any suspicious calls or fraudulent websites to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the National Response Centre for Cyber Crime.
