It is distressing that in a city as large and significant as Karachi, taxpayers are routinely mistreated at Sub-Registrar Offices, despite fulfilling all legal requirements and paying their dues to the government and the FBR.

In any civilised society, taxpayers are respected and facilitated, as they are the backbone of the economy. Unfortunately, in our system, those who contribute honestly are treated as if they are asking for favours. The environment at these offices is marked by harassment, unnecessary delays, rude behaviour, and in some cases, mental torture.

Senior citizens, educated individuals, and women are made to stand in long queues for hours, only to be turned away due to flimsy excuses or unofficial demands. Meanwhile, agents and middlemen, operating with impunity, receive preferential treatment. This reflects not just institutional failure, but a dangerous disregard for public trust and the rule of law.

It is high time the Government of Sindh, Anti-Corruption Department, and judicial authorities take immediate action. Strict measures must be enforced against officials who misuse their authority and disrespect law-abiding citizens.

We demand a system where taxpayers are treated with dignity and where public offices become places of service—not suffering.

ADVOCATE M. LATIF MEHDI,

Karachi.
