FAISALABAD - Four persons including three women died in rain-related incidents while over 2 dozen mud houses collapsed in Faisalabad and its suburban areas. Such incidents were reported in Kokian Wala, Chohla, Sadhar, Sher Singh Wala, Jhang Road Abadi, Thikriwala and Ghulam Muhammad Abad. According to Rescue 1122, Mukhtar Ahmed and his family members, Nasreen (wife), Adil (son) and Nasrana (daughter) were present in their home in Tibbah Colony on Sargodha Road when roof of their house collapsed due to heavy rain. Both the women died on the spot while Mukhtar and Adil sustained injuries. In the second incident, Muhammad Ashraf of Chak 198/RB was present in his house when roof of his house caved in due to heavy downpour in the limits of Millat Town police station. Meanwhile, in Jhang Road area, a housewife, Shakeela, was electrocuted when she tried to switch on the water pump. The rain caused serious traffic hazards in city areas where one to two feet rainwater is flowing on roads. The slum areas of this populous industrial and commercial city have been inundated by rainwater where 2 to 3 feet water can be seen in the streets. In some localities, the rainwater has even entered into houses and badly damaged these houses. Due to constant downpour, even cemented houses in various localities of the city started leaking and thus damaged precious household articles. The lofty claims of the Wasa for improvement of drainage and sewerage system of the city were frustrated when the Agency failed in draining out the rainwater from various localities, even from the city roads.
