LAHORE - Ghulam Haider lifted the title in 39th Millat Tractors Governors Cup Golf Championship that concluded here at Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course on Sunday. 

In the final round, Ghulam Haider had one birdie, 15 regulation pars and just two bogies, a final 18 holes score of net 68 and a three rounds aggregate of net 212, four under par. This steady effort of the final day was laudable and fetched Ghulam an illustrious reward in the shape of the prestigious Governors Cup title 2022. 

Ghulam Haider and Ahmed Ibrahim ended the championship at the same aggregate score of 212 but Ghulam won because he had a better net score over the last 36 holes. It goes to the credit of Ahmed that he put in an impressive effort and for him, winning the runner-up position is laudable. Abdullah Farooqi, a doctor in the making, ended up third at an aggregate score of 213. In the race for gross honors, Salman Jehangir won the best gross that was 220. The second gross went to Qasim Ali Khan with a gross score of 225, followed by Mohsen Zafar, third gross, score being 226. 

In the other events, Shafiq Bhatti of Defence Raya outsmarted his senior competing mates to win the seniors gross. Asad Khan came second and Col Asif Mehdi third. The net section winner was Asim Tiwana, with AVM Fawad Younus finishing and Mian M Shabbir Nagiana third. The young one to shine in boys section was Muhammad Afnan while the junior girls winner was Mahnoor Sayid. Yahya Ahsan emerged as junior boys gross winner followed by Dawood Abbasi while the junior boys net winner was Muhammad Afnan and Mekail Osman runner-up. 

In the ladies section, Suneya Osama claimed the first position while Ghazala Yasmin finished second and 15-year-old Laiba Ali Shah got third. The net title was clinched by 14-year-old Bushra Fatima while 10-year-old Aleesa Rashid, who played her maiden Amateur Championship, earned a second position and Hadiya Osama got third. The veterans’ gross title went Javed A Khan followed by Omar Farooq and Brig Tahir Saleem third while the net title was claimed by Col Muhammad Hazir followed by W/C Pervaiz Saeed Mir and Ch Guftar. 

At the concluding ceremony, Governor Punjab Baligh-ur-Rehman along with Chairman Millat Group Sikandar Mustafa Khan, Chairman Lahore Gymkhana Mian Misbahurrehman and Convenor Golf Sarmad Nadeem distributed prizes among the winners in the presence of CEO Millat Tractors Syed M Aqeel, CEO Millat Equipment Ahsan Imran, Dr. Asma Shami, Chairperson Ladies Golf, Bela Azam, Lady Captain, participating golfers and families. Sikandar Mustafa Khan committed that Millat will continue to promote golf in the years to come.
