I am writing to highlight the growing issue of water-borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhoea, which are spreading in Karachi due to the consumption of contaminated water. In low-income areas, clean water is difficult to access owing to leaking sewage in the streets and damaged pipelines.
This situation poses a grave threat, particularly to children and the elderly. Relevant water authorities must take immediate steps to improve water quality, and the government should repair and upgrade the sewage system in these areas. Public awareness campaigns about water purification and hygiene practices are also essential to prevent the spread of these diseases. The government should utilise digital and print media, as well as organise seminars and public service messages to educate citizens.
Karachi requires urgent action to safeguard public health.
Safe lives with clean water.
