ISLAMABAD - Special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad Friday reserved its verdict on an application of former president Pervez Musharraf seeking permanent exemption from appearing before the court in judges' detention case.
ATC judge Syed Kausar Abbas Zaidi, who conducted the hearing of the case, reserved the decision which would be announced on January 9, the next date of hearing in this matter.
Musharraf's counsel Ilyas Siddiqui Advocate appeared before the court and gave arguments on Musharraf's plea seeking permanent exemption for his client from appearing before the court.
The counsel contended that Musharraf was facing life threats from banned outfits and the government should make comprehensive arrangements in this regard.
Advocate Siddiqui maintained that Musharraf should be granted permanent exemption from appearing before the court.
However, public prosecutor Aamir Nadeem Tabish opposed the exemption saying that the government had assured to provide comprehensive security cover to Musharraf if appeared before the court.
Therefore, he requested the court to reject Musharraf's application after this assurance of government in this regard.
After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the ATC judge reserved his judgment and deferred the hearing till January 9 for further proceedings.
