Yow, Wing emerge as Asian Squash champions

LAHORE - Top seeded player Ng Eain Yow from Malaysia and Tong Tsz Wing from Hong Kong won the men and women titles in the 21st Asian Squash Individual Championship 2021 that concluded at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad on Sunday. 
In the men’s final, Malaysian player Ng Eain Yow played superb squash against Hong Kong’s Yip Tsz Fung and overpowered him with a score of 3-0. Yow started the final on a high note and put his opponent under tremendous pressure to win the first game 11-6. The Malaysian faced tough resistance in the second game from the Hong Kong player before winning it 13-11. The third game also proved a close one but Yow held his nerves and took it 11-9, thus clinched the men’s title. 
In the women’s final, Hong Kong’s Tong Tsz Wing, who was fourth seed defeated second seeded Rachel Mae Arnold of Malaysia 3-0. Tong Tsz Wing, who earlier outclassed the top seeded Liu Tsz Ling, showed superb skills and techniques and prevailed over second seeded Malaysian player Arnold with the score being 11-8, 13-11, 11-5 in 34 minutes, thus claimed the championship crown. 
Air Marshal Aamir Masood, Senior Vice President Pakistan Squash Federation, graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and awarded trophies and prize money amongst the finalists. Squash legends Qamar Zaman and Jansher Khan along with event sponsors were also present on the occasion to witness the enthralling finals and also attended the prize distribution ceremony. 
The men’s event had a draw of 32 players whereas the women’s event had 16 players’ draw. Apart from Pakistan, a group of international players, officials and referees from Hong Kong, Iran, Kuwait, Malaysia, Qatar, Singapore & Sri Lanka participated. The successful hosting of the mega event is reflective of Pakistan’s commitment to promotion of sports both in country and at international level. It also shows that Pakistan is a safe country to host all kinds of international sports event in a befitting manner.
