Pashto singer gunned down in Peshawar


SWAT - Ghazala Javed, a popular Pashto singer, along with her father was shot dead on Monday night in Peshawar by unknown attackers, police said.
According to sources, some unidentified armed men shot Ghazala Javed and her father as she was on her way for performing in a show from a beauty parlour. Both were rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.
Ghazala received 8 bullets - 3 on head, 3 on abdomen and 2 on spinal cord, said, a LRH doctor. Preliminary reports speculated that her husband might be involved in the murder. She had got divorce from her husband, Jahangir, six months back.
Ghazala Javed was called Leader of Pashto Music by famous Pashto singers.
She was considered a leader in reviving and promoting female singing in the KPK province following the Taliban insurgency. She was nominated for a film fair award in 2010 and received a Khyber Award in 2011.
Sources revealed that Ghazala’s husband had barred her from singing and wanted her to be a good housewife.
After registering of a case against three persons in Dabgari Garden Police, Ghazala’s sister Farhat Javed claimed that Jahangir, Salam and Nasser used to target her sister in every function which she attended but we managed to escape every time.
Jahangir made continuous telephon calls everyday prior to her divorce and he warned of dire consequences. Late Monday night, she said that as soon her sister and father got into their car, Jahangir and his accomplice started indiscriminate fire at them.
The police have started investigation in the case, however, no arrest has so far made
