Ordinary checks and balances by Islamabad Electric Supply Company

ISLAMABAD- Despite the effort of the Ministry of Water and Power, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has failed to recover more than Rs. 26 billion from the defaulters so far.

Reports revealed that final notices had been issued to 49 government and semi-government institutions to pay their arrears for electricity by June 23.

The reports further highlighted the ministry’s order to cut electricity for those who don’t repay their debts by the deadline.  

The 49 institutions range as follows: Azad Kashmir government, defaulted over Rs. 25.17 billion; Parliament Lodges, around Rs. 19.7 million; Defence Ministry, over Rs. 318.15 million; Chaklala Cantt Board, Rs. 305.13 million; TMA Rawal Town, Rs. 182 million; Rawalpindi Cantt Board, Rs. 114.1 million; Islamabad Police, Rs. 38.9 million; Parliament House, Rs. 4.9 million and Pak Secretariat has defaulted Rs. 28.2 million of IESCO. Other defaulters included PWD; Ministry of Housing and Works; Health Ministry; FIA; Balochistan House; Sindh House; National Highway Authority; Punjab Police and a hospital run by the federal government.
