PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtun-khwa Governor Shaukatullah Khan dissolved the provincial assembly on the advice of Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti on Tuesday, paving the way for an oath for justice (r) Tariq Pervaiz as caretaker chief minister today (Wednesday).
The governor will administer the oath to the caretaker chief minister at the Governor’s House at 5’O clock in the evening. The KPK Assembly was dissolved eight days ahead of completing its five-year tenure as the first session of the erstwhile NWFP Assembly was convened on March 28, 2008.
The chief minister while exercising his power under article 112 (1) of the Constitution sent an advice about dissolution of the assembly after completion of its mandate period, on Tuesday morning.
According to the notification, the chief minister and his cabinet members will cease to hold the office after 12 am of March 20.
Meanwhile, Amir Haider Khan Hoti has left Chief Minister House for his home district Mardan after renaming in office for five years. The last session of the assembly was prorogued on March 13 due to lack of quorum, which was convened on the requisition of the treasury benches.
During its five-year term, the House passed 102 bills, adopted 303 resolutions and remained in business for almost 437 days. The assembly was addressed by President Asif Ali Zardari in Nov. 2012.
This provincial assembly was renamed as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly after the passage of the 18th Amendment. The Assembly also mourned the deaths of 12 of its members including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour while the combined opposition did not convene a single session of the assembly all these five years.
