ISLAMABAD - The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday came down hard on the telecommunication sector and asked the relevant Ministry to take some proper measures to ensure transparent functioning. The Committee chaired by Ch Nisar Ali discussed the audit report of 2008-09 of Ministry of Information Technology and took notice on payment of Rs 8.987 millions on account of cash reward/bonus to the employees by the corporations, semi autonomous bodies. The Committee also took notice on sanctioning of additional posts. It was discussed that National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) management created six additional posts of BPS-20, increasing the sanctioned strength. It was asked by the Committee to give a report on it before the PAC within 2 months. The meeting also took notice on unauthorised shifting of Pakistan Education Research Network (PERN) equipment valuing of Rs 298 million. The Committee also took notice on issuance of house rent allowance to officers and staff of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM). Chairman PAC, Ch Nisar Ali, said that no one would be allowed to plunder the national kitty.
