Magsi fears US operation if Quetta Shura traced

QUETTA - Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi has said there is no Quetta Shura in Balochistan and if it exists no one can stop the US from carrying out another Abbottabad-like operation. He stated this while talking to newsmen after the fourth convocation of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University here on Thursday. Responding to a question, he said: I am totally unaware about the existence of Quetta Shura. If it is present in the city the government should take concrete steps to deal with it. He, however, said if Quetta Shura really existed then no one could stop the US from another Abbatabad-like operation. Referring to the law and order situation in Balochistan, the governor said after the 18th Amendment a governor had no authority to interfere in provincial matters rather provincial government is competent in this regard. So, this question should be asked from the provincial government, he added. He said no progress had been made by reconciliation committee formed by President Asif Ali Zardari to solve the problems of Balochistan. To another query about the killing of five Chechens by police and Frontier Corps in Kharotabad, he said if they were innocent the government should investigate it and the judiciary must take a suo moto notice. Nawab Magsi regretted that federal government did not deliver for sorting out the issues of Balochistan. The federal government had promised not to make any cut in the federal PSDP but unfortunately it did, he remarked. He said the issue of Balochistan could not be solved through Jirgas as the Jirga system had already withered away. Courts were present there and if the government wanted to solve the issues through Jirgas then judicial system should be abolished, he said. To yet another query, Nawab Magsi conceded that he had played role in removing the governments of Taj Muhammad Jamali and Sardar Akthar Mengal but would not become a part of any conspiracy against the government of Nawab Aslam Raisani. Earlier, the governor gave away 500 degrees to female students and awarded 17 gold medals for their outstanding performance.
