Protests have started in all the major cities of Pakistan against Geo TV’s morning show hosted by Shaista Lodhi. The disrespect shown towards religion was atrocious. Everyone was shocked, but I think it is being blown out of proportion. I believe that protests are not the answer. Our society is very intolerant, especially when it comes to religious matters. Political leaders, as well as religious scholars are instigating people by hateful and passionate speeches, instead of trying to restore calm in the nation.
This is where the duty of religious scholars comes into play; they should calm down the protestors, and educate them instead of flaming these protests. Since the audience of these morning shows are mostly housewives, they should have enough sense to recognize the bad from the good and disregard it.
