LAHORE  -  Proceedings in the Punjab Assembly on Monday were thrown into disarray after the absence of ministers and departmental secretaries drew sharp criticism from opposition members, ultimately resulting in a walkout over the lack of quorum. The session, which began after a 50-minute delay, was chaired by Raheela Khadim Hussain from the Panel of Chairpersons. During the proceedings, the Assembly was scheduled to address questions related to the Revenue Department. However, the members who had submitted the questions were notably absent from the session. Only two questions raised by Member Amjad Ali Javed were answered, while the rest were dismissed due to nonattendance. The situation further deteriorated when Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman left the session immediately after the question-answer segment, leaving no minister present in the Assembly to respond to subsequent matters. Tensions rose when opposition member Rana Shahbaz attempted to present a “Call Attention Notice,” only to find that no minister was available to respond. The opposition then demanded that the Chairperson adjourn the session for at least 30 minutes to ensure proper representation from the government side. Chairperson Raheela Khadim, however, rejected the demand and insisted on continuing the session. This led to a protest from the opposition, who warned they would point out the lack of quorum if their concerns were ignored. “There is no point in continuing the session when not a single minister is present,” said opposition member Rana Shahbaz. His colleague, MPA Waqas Maan, formally pointed out the lack of quorum soon after. The government failed to meet the required quorum, prompting Chairperson Raheela Khadim Hussain to adjourn the session until 2:00 PM the following day. Prior to the disruption, the annual performance report of the Punjab Forensic Science Agency was also presented in the Assembly.
